Blackwork Christmas Tree - Free Pattern

We all love a nice relaxing Christmas project to get us through the long dark evenings at this time of year right? Well I know I do at least!

This Cross Stitch and Blackwork Christmas tree design is the perfect project to keep by the sofa and pick up whenever you’re feeling crafty

This design is great for keen beginners and beyond!

It took me just single weekend to stitch this, probably around 8 hours. It may take you more or less time than this but should be completable in time for Christmas!

Once the cross stitch outline is in there’s just 3 simple blackwork patterns to have some fun with

Materials:

  • A 6 inch embroidery hoop and 18 count Aida to fit (or equivalent)

  • Embroidery threads in yellow, brown, dark green and mid green (DMC codes included on the chart below)

  • A blunt needle

  • A pair of scissors

The design is 90*90 stitches

Method

Step one:

Complete the cross stitch outline, trunk, star and tinsel using the dark green, brown and yellow embroidery threads. Use 2 strands of embroidery thread for the cross stitch

Step two:

Complete the cross stitch patterns inside the tree using 2 strands of the mid green embroidery thread

Step three:

Complete the blackwork patterns inside the tree using 1 strand of the mid green embroidery thread
